According to recent data released by the General Administration of Customs, China’s aluminum trade witnessed notable shifts in September, reflecting evolving global and domestic market dynamics. Exports of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products declined by 7.3% year-on-year to 520,000 metric tons, contributing to an 8.1% drop in cumulative exports for the first nine months, totaling 4.52 million metric tons.
Conversely, exports of alumina surged by 82.2% in September, reaching 250,000 metric tons. Over the January to September period, alumina exports hit 2 million metric tons – a substantial increase of 62% compared to the same period last year. This surge underscores growing international demand for intermediate aluminum raw materials, likely driven by supply constraints in other regions.
On the import side, inbound shipments of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products rose by 35.4% year-on-year to 360,000 metric tons in September. Imports of aluminum ores and concentrates also grew significantly, climbing 38.3% to 15.88 million metric tons. These figures point to sustained domestic demand for primary aluminum materials, particularly bauxite, amid robust industrial activity.
