China’s aluminum foreign trade posted robust growth in August 2026, according to official customs data. The strong export momentum reflects the global market’s rising demand for Chinese aluminum semi-finished goods and processed aluminum components.
Customs General Administration statistics show that China exported 630,000 tons of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products in August, marking a 17.3% year-on-year increase. The cumulative export volume from January to August reached 4.66 million tons, up 16.7% compared with the same period last year. Alumina exports also saw explosive growth. In August, alumina exports hit 430,000 tons, surging by 135.8% year-on-year, while the January~August total stood at 2.34 million tons, a 33.5% year-on-year rise.
On the import side, the market trend went the opposite direction. China imported 290,000 tons of unwrought aluminum and aluminum products in August, down 10% year-on-year. The total import volume for the first eight months was 2.44 million tons, dropping by 8% year-on-year. For bauxite and its concentrates, August imports were 15.45 million tons, a 15% year-on-year decline. Even so, the January~August cumulative bauxite imports reached 155.25 million tons, growing 10% year-on-year.
