China’s electrolytic aluminum production in June reached 3.98 million tons, up 4.7% year-on-year.

China’s primary aluminum industry reached a historic milestone in June 2026. According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the country produced 3.98 million metric tons of primary aluminum in June, marking a 4.7% year-on-year increase and setting a new monthly record. This figure surpassed the previous high of 3.89 million tons recorded in May 2026, underscoring the sustained upward trajectory of Chinese smelting capacity.

For the first half of 2026, cumulative primary aluminum output reached 23.19 million tons, up 3.8% from the same period last year. The broader nonferrous metals sector also demonstrated robust performance: June production of ten nonferrous metals totaled 7.19 million tons (up 3.9% YoY), while H1 cumulative output reached 41.51 million tons (up 3.3% YoY). Notably, however, value added output from the nonferrous metal smelting and rolling sector declined by 3.8% in June and 0.3% year-to-date, a divergence that signals margin pressures even as volume expands.

Perhaps the most critical factor shaping the aluminum market today is China’s self-imposed production cap of 45 million tons per year, introduced in 2017 to curb oversupply and reduce emissions. With H1 output already at 23.19 million tons, annualized production is tracking toward approximately 45.4 million tons, marginally above the official ceiling. Operating capacity currently stands at roughly 45.3 million tons per year, with capacity utilization approaching 99%.

This near-total capacity utilization leaves virtually no additional supply elasticity. As Citigroup analysts noted, “China’s aluminum system is operating at historically elevated utilization levels with limited remaining supply elasticity”. Remaining idle capacity less than 800,000 tons is mostly located in hydropower dependent regions like Yunnan, where seasonal dry spells pose constant curtailment risks. BNP Paribas Senior Metal Strategist David Wilson observed that while efficiency gains have allowed smelters to produce more on the same energy input, “most of the possible efficiency gains have already been implemented”.

China’s record production has been met with equally impressive export demand. Customs data reveals that June 2026 exports of aluminum and aluminum products topped 711,000 tons, the first time monthly shipments have exceeded 700,000 tons. This represents a 45.4% year-on-year surge, with H1 shipments rising 16.3% to 3.4 million tons. The export acceleration has been driven largely by geopolitical disruptions in the Middle East which accounts for approximately 9% of global supply that prompted international buyers to shift procurement to Chinese suppliers.

China’s aluminum consumption is supported by a well-diversified downstream base spanning construction, transportation, power and electronics, packaging, and machinery. Transportation sector consumption grew from 10.27 million tons to 11.70 million tons between 2024 and 2025, while power and electronics rose from 10.00 million to 10.60 million tons. Emerging sectors new energy vehicles, energy storage systems, and photovoltaic infrastructure are driving additional consumption growth.

For companies specializing in aluminum plates, bars, tubes, and precision machining, the current market environment presents clear opportunities. The combination of record primary output, capacity constraints, and surging exports creates a scenario where semi fabricated and value added products are in high demand. Global buyers are increasingly moving beyond primary ingots toward near-net-shape products that reduce downstream processing costs. Aluminum plates and sheets, extruded rods and bars, and drawn or extruded tubes rank among the most sought-after product categories.

As a specialized supplier of aluminum plates, bars, tubes, and custom CNC-machined components, we are uniquely positioned to serve this growing global demand. Our capabilities span:

· Aluminum Plates & Sheets: Available in 6061, 7075, 5052, and other alloys, precision-cut to specifications for structural, aerospace, and industrial applications.

· Aluminum Bars & Rods: Round, square, and hexagonal profiles in a comprehensive range of tempers, suitable for machining, forging, and structural use.

· Aluminum Tubes & Pipes: Seamless and extruded options for fluid systems, heat exchangers, and lightweight structural frameworks.

· Precision CNC Machining: 5-axis milling, turning, drilling, and surface finishing to OEM specifications.

We combine upstream semi-finished stock with in-house fabrication capabilities, delivering dimensionally accurate, surfacet reated aluminum solutions from raw billet to ready-to-assemble parts.
